Some portrait sessions are about one striking idea. This collab shoot was about getting every detail right, from the first brushstroke of makeup to the last fold of the gele.

If you are searching for a portrait photographer in Ibadan, this session shows how we like to work: calmly, collaboratively and with close attention to the small things. It was a model collaboration, built around a soft, luxurious glam that was meant to complement the beauty already in front of the camera, never to cover it.

Elegance in every detail, radiance in every frame.

That line sums up the day. There is something special about a beautifully finished face, a stunning gele, and a woman who knows exactly how to carry her elegance. Our job was to stay out of her way and let all of that show.

Gele, glam and gown: building a cohesive look

The palette did a lot of the storytelling. A sculpted peach gele, finished with a generous flower-like fold at the side, set the tone. Warm, shimmering eyeshadow and a soft, glossy lip echoed those colours without competing with them. Against a deep olive backdrop, the peach and coral tones glowed.

The outfit carried the same thinking. The gown has puffed sleeves, a scalloped, beaded neckline and a softly draped skirt covered in fine beadwork. Layered beaded necklaces with a coral-toned pendant, matching drop earrings, a gold clutch and an embellished hand fan finished the picture. Each piece was chosen to belong to the whole look.

We moved between a close portrait and full-length frames. In the close-up, the gele, the jewellery and a quiet, sideways glance take centre stage. In the wider frames, a potted fern in a gold geometric planter adds a little life to the set, and the poses loosen. One frame is composed and poised. Another is mid-movement, with a wide, easy smile.

Planning a portrait session in Ibadan

A shoot like this works best when everyone is thinking about the same picture. If you are planning a studio portrait or a heritage-inspired session, a few simple habits help.

First, decide on your colour story early. Choose your outfit first, then let the gele, makeup and accessories follow it. Second, bring every accessory you might want to use, including bags, fans, jewellery and shoes. You will not know which ones photograph best until you see them under the lights. Third, talk to your makeup and gele artists before the day so they know the outfit and the mood you want. Finally, tell us how you want to feel in the pictures, whether regal, playful or quietly confident. That helps us guide your posing.

Give yourself time, too. The best expressions come once you have stopped thinking about the camera, and a relaxed session leaves room for both the stately frames and the joyful ones.

The team behind the images

This session was a true collaboration. The bridal makeup was by @stevebeautypro and the gele by @ifeboy_gele. The dress was by @kiltanatelier, and the accessories and clutch were from @flakybeads. @lightandlens7 created content on the day, and the photography was by @tee_boss.imagery. We are grateful to each of them for the care they brought.
